80-Hour Home Inspection Course

Location: West Virginia University - Parkersburg

Start Date: August 25, 2008 (Saturdays for 10 consecutive weeks)

Cost: $1595 includes materials.

HEAP funding is available for this course beginning July 1, 2008. So if you need to utilize HEAP funding Early Registration is Required and Recommended.

This course is designed to provide knowledge of blended standards and practices of current ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) and NAHI (National Association of Home Inspectors).

Topics include:

• In-depth knowledge of home inspection industry
• What comprises a home inspection, what is included and what is not included in the inspection.
• Record keeping and reporting systems
• Marketing your home inspection business
• Professionalism needed
• Realtor/client relationships
• Environmental Issues
• Code Issues

Participants will, upon successful completion of this unique 80-hour course, have the tools needed to establish and succeed in a home inspection business. The class will meet for 10 consecutive Saturdays.

Course Objectives Include:

• Cite the ASHI & NAHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics
• Explain the importance of structural issues (grading, foundations, roofing, and structure) to a client.
• Identify and cover exterior cladding and insulation as they pertain to the inspection process. The electrical inspection and process, along with safety issues, will be discussed.
• Recall the system components and inspection techniques for residential electrical, HVAC, plumbing system, roofing, foundations, and interior and exterior housing components.
• Discuss in detail the interior inspection and organization of the interior inspection process
• Write a home inspection report, discuss record keeping, marketing and professionalism
• Develop a marketing plan based on recommended activities from the course.
• List helpful resources for additional learning that will arise during inspection careers.
